FACED WITH the urgent
shipment of eight containers
from the Port of Antwerp to
Botswana, Röhlig Botswana
MD Leif Bekker opted for
Walvis Bay discharge.
“It’s the shortest route
to Botswana and Gauteng
from Europe,” said Bekker,
“and the containers were
delivered in 19 days.”
The Walvis Bay Corridor
Group has been aggressively
marketing the benefits of
the TransKalahari route. A
management committee
representing Botswana,
Namibia and South Africa
was established recently and
since March this year a full
time programme manager
has been on hand to focus
on the reduction of any
bottlenecks and delays along
the route.
