Top Western Cape exporters of fast-moving consumer goods continue to see Africa as a growth market – especially as logistics into the continent continues to improve. Derek Peterssen, manager of export sales at Pioneer Food Group, said what had started as opportunistic trade had developed into a targeted approach. “We look at very specific environments for our exports and over the years have made significant investments into those markets,” he said. This includes countries like Kenya and Nigeria. The company is a major exporter of fruit juice and dried fruits and Peterssen said as it became easier to move product efficiently exports continued to show upward growth.
