Vessel arrival info gets email upgrade

P&O Nedlloyd replaces fax facility Joy Orlek REGISTERING A first in the South African market, P&O Nedlloyd will launch an electronic vessel arrival notification facility for all its customers from June 1. This will replace the current fax system and provide a speedier and more efficient update, according to marketing services manager Ronel Visser. Customers will not only be notified of the arrival of the vessel at its destination port, but in the case of transhipments a message will be generated from the transhipment hub as well. All it requires is that the client registers with the line as an e-commerce customer before June 1, either on line, telephonically or by emailing a customer details form. The system has been tested in Europe for the past year, attracting very positive response, says Visser. A 4-month pilot project involving 100 South African customers has been equally successful, she said.
