RAY SMUTS GLOBAL OCEAN transportation service provider, Direct Container Line (DCL), has added more services to its present weekly offering from New York to Cape Town and the country’s three other main commercial ports. Claude Nuttall, Cape Town-based director for United Maritime Logistics (UML), representing DCL in South Africa, says the American group has added more direct groupage services from Atlanta, Georgia, which serves most of the South East states, including Georgia, Florida, North and South Carolina and Tennessee. “Moving LCL cargo from these areas to our Atlanta facility reduces the cost of inland freight as Atlanta is much closer than New York. “Furthermore, once the groupage container is closed, it moves to Charleston for direct sailing to Cape Town, further reducing transit time.” Nuttall adds that DCL also offers direct services from Chicago which covers the entire Midwest area. Cargo railed to New York sails direct to all South African ports. “Further savings can be enjoyed on inland transport within the US through DCL’s special contracts with domestic truckers,” he added.
