Upswing in airfreight volumes evident

On Time, As Quoted, As Promised continues to be the motto of Cargocare’s premium airfreight service, despite a slight drop in volumes. “We still see the express airfreight side of our business as being the flagship of the organisation,” says Sue Wood, operations director of Cargocare Freight Service, despite the lower volumes. This, she says, can be attributed to the month of April – traditionally renowned for its lower volumes due to all the public holidays. “Cargocare has hit an average so far for the year of 88.5% success in meeting our delivery targets in under 10 hours from cargo availability at the airlines,” said Wood. She says there has definitely been an upswing in airfreight volumes over 2011 – and in an effort to improve the organisation’s carbon footprint, it is now utilising a technological fuel enhancer that cuts down emissions from its vehicles. At only 16 years old, the company has a combined 30 years of service from its current drivers who undergo continuous onand off-the-job training in various disciplines in order to maintain service levels. “It is about high quality communication and staying true to our company ethos which is what has led to us becoming known in the industry as the friendly forwarder,” says Wood. Cooperation with the airlines remains integral for airfreight service success, she added. “We have experienced minimal disruption with customs systems, however we do find that State Veterinary services are not working optimally and are taking it up with the Department of Agriculture. Overall, however, we are satisfied with operations at Ortia.”
