There is a strong SA
focus in the latest social
responsibility programme at
logistics major UPS.
Effective since October
1, during its tenth annual
Global Volunteer Month
led by the UPS Foundation,
nearly 400 000 employees
around the world are
pledging 195 000
volunteer hours to make
their communities
more environmentally
sustainable.
The regional programme
in South Africa ranges from
creating outdoor play areas
at the Protea Child Care
Centre in Port Elizabeth to
planting a vegetable garden
at the Mpumelelo Day Care
Centre in Johannesburg.
To date in 2012, the
foundation has contributed
almost US$700 000 to
38 community-based
environmental programmes
around the globe, which
also are supported by
locally based UPS
employees.
