UPS denies rumours of Emery takeover

THE RUMOUR of a take-over of Emery Wordwide has been categorically denied by UPS (United Parcel Service).
The original story (See FTW: January 26) made headline news all around the global freight industry - and accompanied stories of the now-completed UPS take-over of Fritz Companies.
But, said public relations manager, Daniel McMackin, UPS has no intention of purchasing Emery.
The rumour about the deal, he added, was completely groundless.
According to an Emery management source, they, in turn, are equally mystified as to the origin of the rumour although one news service attributed it to sources in the company.
