Uncertainty looms as Brexit enters its make-or-break month

Prime Minister of the UK, Boris Johnson and Queen Elizabeth

Inter-party fighting, a divided nation and huge uncertainties over Brexit are brewing as the United Kingdom prepares to leave the European Union on October 31 – with or without a deal.

Speaking at the Conservative Party conference in Manchester on Monday, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he was aware of those trying to prevent Brexit from happening but said he remained resolute in his quest to divorce the UK from the EU.

“There are a lot of people who basically want to stop us delivering Brexit on the 31st but I have to tell you that we are not going to be deterred from that ambition, we are going to get on and do it.”

And he’s optimistic that a deal can be done.

"I'm cautiously optimistic. We have made some pretty big moves; we are waiting to see whether our European friends will help us and whether we can find the right landing zone,” said Johnson. – Bjorn Vorster
