UK’s aircraft protection police could be decimated

The UK government’s cost-saving measures could lead to specialist British police teams which guard against attacks on aircraft by militants armed with surface-to-air missiles are at risk of being disbanded, according to Airwise News.

But, on the other hand, the US Department of State has said countering the spread of weapons like shoulder-launched Manpads (man portable air defence systems) is a top national security priority.

Set up in 2008, the UK’s Flight Path Protection Teams (FPPT) could see police chiefs reducing their number from about 50 officers around the country to two constables based in London, Reuters news agency reported.
