Ugandan mineral export ban lifted

Ugandan president, Yoweri Museveni, has lifted the four-year ban on mineral ore exports from Uganda.

Announcing the lifting of the ban last week, Uganda Chamber of Mines and Petroleum chairman Elly Karuhanga was cited by the East African Business Week newspaper as welcoming the move, saying it had paved the way for increased development of the mining industry.

He explained that in the past enacting the ban had not only impacted the validity of contracts with investors but had hampered any further development.
