Turners expands warehousing facilities

In a move that adds muscle to its warehousing service offering, Turners Warehousing, a division of the Turners Group, recently signed a deal with Kwela Logistics enabling the Durban-based company to offer 35 000 sqm of fully integrated bonded and general storage and distribution on a national basis. “This substantially increases both the space and services we are able to offer our clients,” says Durban warehouse manager Sudesh Maharaj. The new facilities have been established in Johannesburg and Cape Town to complement the existing Durban facility, which has also been expanded. The deal was struck in response to customer needs, says Maharaj. “Many of our customers operate on a national level and want continuity in service and costing throughout the country.” Turners can now offer its customers handling and distribution in the major centres at a uniform rate, he said. “The newly installed ‘desk-to-desk’ electronic communication system allows customers to monitor stock levels and movements in real time. “Each of the three facilities offer block-stack and rack storage in both general and bonded sections which allows importers to customs clear cargo on a demand basis, maximising their cash flow options. “The warehouses are equipped with appropriate mechanical equipment which ensures efficient product handling, at the same time minimising manual handling, which is where most damage to goods occurs,” he said.
