ALONG WITH other African countries, Zambian authorities are warning retailers, vendors and the public about piracy and poor quality products being made available in the country’s main cities and towns. Piracy has a major impact on transport as confiscated goods are impounded with the vehicle until the legal matters and punishments are sorted out – if in fact they ever are. Piracy, which in Zambian law falls under organised crime, has been found to be extremely systematic and in some cases may be used in laundering money across borders – which heightens its criminal rating.
