KEVIN MAYHEW THE ARRIVE Alive campaign organisers have called on the transport and its allied industries to play their part in this year’s festive season efforts to reduce the country’s appalling road accident and death rates. According to the general manager, land and transport regulation of the Department of Transport and Arrive Alive coordinator, Wendy Watson, latest statistics indicate that trucks are responsible for over 10% of fatal crashes annually. This year the taxi industry also joined in the battle against the death statistics as it pledged support for the campaign at the Arrive Alive launch at the Wesbank Raceway in Alberton last week.
