KEVIN MAYHEW THE GOVERNMENT of Lesotho is undertaking a number of initiatives which Maseru-based Storm Transport owner, Simon Phohleli, believes will save the economy from the fall-out following the dip in textiles. One of the few locally established and managed transporters, Storm has been providing containerised transport solutions for a range of cargo between Johannesburg and Durban for five years now. Like most transporters, the company has been adversely affected by the downturn in the textile market, but he believes that the government has responded well and will maintain the economy. “We have had the European Union people here looking at investment opportunities so we can be confident. The government is also actively seeking further investment to replace that lost in textiles in the Far East, which has traditionally been a good source for investors in the country,” he added. Storm operates six vehicles capable of hauling 12m containers to destinations in South Africa.
