WHILE ALMOST half the country’s 25 sectoral education and training authorities (SETAs) are underperforming, the transport authority (TETA) is not one of them,
according to acting executive director, Ingrid de Buisson.
“From the information I have available, it would seem that only 10 to12 are performing, and pumping adequate training funds into their industry sectors,” she told FTW.
“TETA’s funds are certainly all well used, tied up in contracts, projects,
discretionary grants and the likes.”
De Buisson told FTW that the transport authority used all the levies paid in by members of the
industry.
“Indeed, we even have to get extra funding from the department of labour’s national skills fund to fulfil all the projects that we have developed,” she said.
TETA has eight separate sectoral chambers nestling under its wings, according to De Buisson. These include aerospace,
forwarding and clearing (f&c), freight handling (just recently expanded to include the needs of the express/courier industry), maritime, rail, road freight, road passenger and the taxi chambers.
