RECENTLY OPENED black economic empowerment logistics operator Kuseni Logistics is “the real deal”, says managing director Musa Dlamini.
“We’ve opened our books for scrutiny, we have a strong business model, and see ourselves as a service-orientated, entrepreneurial company which just happens to be owned and managed by a black guy.”
Dlamini is confident that he has the background and expertise to take the company forward.
After joining Safmarine in Durban in 1995 he spent 18 months on its trainee sales programme, later moving to Rennies Ships Agency followed by a two and a half year stint with Maersk Sealand.
A fortuitous meeting with ZA Trans chairman Vic Erfmann led to the co-founding of Kuseni Freight which is 51% owned by Dlamini, with the remaining 49% held by ZA Trans.
“We’ve employed our own funds to set up the operation, and ultimately intend to become self-sustaining. Until then we will make use of the ZA Trans global network of offices in 60 countries.”
Dlamini’s vision for the company is clearly defined.
“We would like to take control of the customer’s entire logistics chain. Our focus is not on the frills but on the nuts and bolts. My background is in operations and service, and those will be the cornerstones of the business.”
He also regards Africa as a market of strong focus and potential.
Ultimately Kuseni plans to roll out its own national network.
