THE COMPLETION of Botswana’s primary road network has brought opportunities both for industrial and commercial growth and for transport firms serving the burgeoning new activity. As the level of road infrastructure improves so too must the service of transport firms, government and private players agree. Coinciding with the expanding road network has been the launch of Transport Holdings Ltd, a creation of Imperial Holdings Group of South Africa, the CEDA Venture Capital Fund, Peo Holdings and the Debswana-De Beers Business Development initiative. The partners’ assets and strengths were seen as the complementary components required to put together a multi-purpose transport firm tailored to Botswana’s development. The firm does consolidations for Botswana’s mines, and owns Express Cartage, which also does consolidations, as well as Petrol Logistics, which is dedicated to fuel transport. “Business is booming in Botswana. When we look at world commodity prices, they explain the robust activity of the mines,” said Transport Holdings Ltd managing director Anthony Lee. Expansion of Botswana’s road network was seen as one component to lower transport costs, and government has several highway projects under construction or development, Lee said. “The economy is doing well and all signs point to a continuation,” he added.
