VEHICLE MAINTENANCE and superior standards of back-up service will be the major focus at Transport Expo '99, with transport operators paying greater attention to these factors in the current economic climate, says John Knocker, exhibition manager Specialised Exhibitions.
The 10th exhibition in this series is to be held at the National Exhibition Centre, Johannesburg from September 21-25.
The stringent economic conditions with high interest rates currently threatening the country's business environment cannot be ignored, and the gradual decrease in vehicle sales is one of these symptoms, he says.
The strong move towards maintenance, service and lowering cost per kilometre is confirmed by exhibitors coming on board focusing on areas such as longer life tyres, fuel efficiency, quality parts, vehicle tracking systems and transport management systems.
This trend came to the fore very strongly at the 1997 show with research, undertaken by an independent market research company, indicating that 54% of our visitors came to view products that will help to reduce the control operating costs.
The exhibition covers a wide spectrum of disciplines within the transport industry applicable to fleet operators ranging from direct transport related products such as vehicles of varying sizes to warehousing and distribution sectors.
