Transport and logistics company launched

Last month saw the launch by Simba Africa Logistics of a transport and logistics company with a focus on ships’ husbandry, container trading and over-border logistics. With offices in Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, East London and Durban, the ships’ husbandry will focus on both liner shipping and traditional husbandry agency business for third party ship owners, Durban-based general manager Malte Kersten told FTW. The company has also started trading in both new and second-hand containers as well as offering container conversions to the retail industry. “This is a synergy to our core business in liner shipping,” said Kersten. He sees a particularly lucrative opportunity in the over-border market. “This is based on the experience we have gained in this field, handling intermodal containers which move on a through bill of lading to destinations in Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi for the principals we represent,” he said. Simba Africa Logistics can also offer merchant haulage, Kersten added. “This through outsourcing the road transport leg to service providers, offering a full supply chain management option under our own control to the benefit of third parties who wish to entrust their business to us. We already have a few regular customers in the dry and reefer container sectors using our services,” said Kersten.
