Transnet not ready to firm up ‘acting’ CEOs

The status of several senior positions within the parastatal Transnet group remains “acting”, with the Department of Public Enterprises under Minister Barbara Hogan still mulling the affair. According to Ayanda Shezi, head of communications and international relations and departmental spokesman, the interim situation has seen the term of all board members – including the acting chairman Professor Geoff Everingham – having been extended. “The process of appointing a chairman and additional members will be finalised through the relevant processes,” she told FTW. “Thereafter, the appointment process for a chief executive officer (currently an “acting” post held by Chris Wells) will be completed.” It also continues the “acting” status of Tau Morwe, head of Transnet Freight Rail (TFR), and Karl Socikwa, head of Transnet Port Terminals (TPT).
