TNPA training centre

The Port of Cape Town will
become the first to offer
dock master training in
Africa. The course will be
available through a special
training centre created by
Transnet National Ports
Authority (TNPA) aimed at
skills development in port
communities.
Situated at the port’s
SAFBULK building, the
facility is currently being
upgraded and renovated and
will officially open its doors
next year with the first intake
of students expected to start
technical training no later
than October. Applications
will open in April, said Nzuza.
Several marine courses
will be on offer including
shipbuilding courses, a ship
maintenance programme
and international lighthouse
and navigational systems
programmes.
