Private investors are being invited to develop two logistics sites within the Port of Durban as Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) looks to expand port capacity and strengthen logistics infrastructure at South Africa's busiest container port.
TNPA has issued a request for proposals (RFP) for the design, construction and operation of commercial logistics facilities at two sites in Ambrose Park in the Bayhead precinct. The sites, measuring about 70 478m² and 101 065m², will be leased for periods of up to 25 years.
The authority said the developments are intended to support a range of port-related logistics activities, including cargo handling, warehousing, storage and distribution, while improving operational efficiency and creating new commercial opportunities within the port precinct.
The sites are strategically located close to key port infrastructure and logistics corridors, positioning them to support the container-handling sector and other port-related activities, according to TNPA.
The RFP forms part of TNPA's broader Transnet Reinvent for Growth strategy to optimise asset utilisation, attract private-sector investment and expand logistics capacity, Durban Port Manager Mpumi Dweba-Kwetana said.
Prospective investors will also be required to demonstrate how their proposals align with TNPA's modernisation objectives through the adoption of automation, digital technologies, advanced security measures and environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles.
