BRUCE THORESSON has taken over as sales and marketing director of Renfreight Circle following the transfer of Derek Holmes to the company's Singapore office.
A financial man by profession, he joined the Rennies Group in Durban in 1986 with SA Stevedores, moving up the ranks to the position of financial director. He relocated to Johannesburg in 1996 to join the Rennies Express Freight division, moving on to Renfreight Circle at the time of the merger.
He has been involved for the past 18 months in putting the two companies together and believes that Renfreight Circle has emerged from a period of extreme change, both within and in a macro-economic sense, fighting fit.
The merger happened at a time when interest rates soared to 25% and the rand weakened. But despite these trying circumstances, the groundwork for future growth has been prepared and the company is making profits, says Thoresson.
IT activity revolved around finishing touches to new applications, and we now have a fully integrated foundation which is providing excellent opportunities for connections with our partner, customers and suppliers.
The transfer of Derek Holmes to Singapore to look after marketing of the Asia Pacific region is part of a wider plan to place local resources in strategic positions around the globe. It supplements the Circle relationship and it's good for the SA customer base, says Thoresson.
Of the future positioning of Renfreight Circle within the Bidvest Group, Thoresson is adamant that both Renfreight Circle and Safcor will continue to coexist separately, occupying different market niches.
