UK-based sustainable building materials and construction solutions provider Tarmac, has launched Tarmix, a permeable concrete system which is safer than regular asphalt, says the company.
The company explains that through voids in the concrete, the water can be transported to drainage systems where it can enter the ground water, adding that it also works in freezing temperatures as it will prevent water from freezing on the surface. In other words, the mechanism reduces road hazards, such as puddles or ice.
Further, Tarmac notes that “during periods of rising temperatures and intense rainfall, water stored within the system evaporates, creating a cooling effect and reducing surface temperatures.”
