THE THREE books by training consultant Christopher Richards - Importing & the Customs Clearance Process; Freight Forwarding; and Airfreight/Exports/Marine Insurance - are being comprehensively updated. These reference sources for all trainees in the forwarding industry are soon to be released in their third edition, Richards told FTW. The author is currently offering an in-house training course in all nine core unit standards of the National Bridging Certificate in Forwarding and Clearing, registered with the SA Qualifications Authority (SAQA). It is made up of fundamental, core and elective units, with the nine core unit standards being INTRO 1 to INTRO 8 and CUS 4. Richards was responsible for writing the material for INTRO 2 to INTRO 8. “With training taking place at the forwarder’s premises, it allows training to be done at times of the day convenient for the company, and facilitates attendance,” Richards told FTW. He is a trained “assessor”, one of the requirements which the Transport Education Training Authority (Teta) has laid down for accredited providers. “As a source of finance to contribute to the cost of the training,” Richards told FTW, “it is possible to apply to Teta for a discretionary grant.
