THAI AIRWAYS has scrapped plans to launch a Bangkok-Johannesburg service on December 3, 2005. The decision forms part of Thai Airways’ new marketing plan aimed at reducing costs and maximising revenue, according to an airline statement quoted in internet news service TNN. Mike Behan, deputy group managing director of Holiday Holdings, which represents Thai Airways in South Africa, said he hoped the postponement would only be temporary. The airline has not indicated when it intends to commence the service.
