PE business needs
to start work on a
'life without Coega'
survival plan
BUSINESS IN the eastern Cape needs clarity on government's Coega plans - for better or for worse.
That was the terse message from PE Chamber of Commerce & Industry president Chris Steenekamp who hit out at government for stalling the process at a meeting in PE last week .
We also need to know whether there will be any concessions on offer in the proposed IDZ at Coega, and if so what they will offer, he said.
The project will never fly without concessions, and government needs to give us a clear-cut answer as a matter of urgency. If we are not going to see the granting of necessary concessions then it is equally important that someone has the courage to come out and say it.
If Coega becomes a non-event, business in the region needs to take the necessary steps for survival in a life without Coega, he added.
