– 3 June 2005 The general rate of customs duty (duty) and the European Union (EU) rates of duty for tariff subheading 8716.90.90 i.e. trailers and semi-trailers; other vehicles, not mechanically propelled; parts thereof, which were inadvertently reduced to free of duty, are now reinstated at 15% ad valorem and 13.2% ad valorem. The general and EU rates of duty on vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymers are reduced from 10% and 8.8% respectively to free of duty. The rebate of the duty on vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate, 307.04/3904.30/01.06, is withdrawn as this is now free of duty. Tariff Application – Response Due The International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (ITAC) published a notice in respect of the proposed reduction of the duty on a range of tariff subheadings in respect of Chapter 48 i.e. newsprint in rolls or sheets, uncoated paper and paperboards, uncoated kraft paper and paperboard, other uncoated paper and paperboard, composite paper and paperboard, paper and paperboard – corrugated, carbon paper, self-copy paper, paper and paperboard of a kind used for writing, paper and paperboard, cellulose wadding and webs of cellulose fibres, carbon paper, self-copy paper and other copying or transfer papers. The applicant is Printing Industries Federation of South Africa. The reason for the application is to assist the printing, packing and publishing industries in reducing the material cost, thereby becoming more globally competitive in view of ever-increasing competition from imports. Response due by 1 July 2005.
