JOY ORLEK
IN A bid to stimulate its recruitment drive in South Africa, the Transported Asset Protection Association (Tapa) has reduced its membership fees by 25% for local businesses that sign up before March 31. Tapa South Africa held its inaugural meeting in Johannesburg yesterday (February 15). “We are setting up this local Tapa chapter to provide direct support and resources for our member companies in the region,” Steve McHugh, head of strategy for Tapa EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa region), told FTW. “We now hope that other South African manufacturers and freight service providers will decide to join our association because otherwise the issue of cargo crime will continue to grow and that is likely to force many of the world’s biggest organisations to consider moving their business to other, more secure locations. “TAPA EMEA views South Africa as an important link in the supply chain.”
