Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) has signed a contract with the Belgium-based Phaeros group to install a single window electronic system in the country’s ports.
A TradeMark East Africa (TMEA) report cited information and communications technology (ICT) director at TPA, Phares Magesa, as saying that the 5 million euro pilot project, to be implemented at all sea ports, would be completed this year.
The project would eventually be extended to all ports and borders and upon completion the ports would have the capacity to clear 18 million tonnes of cargo by the end of this year, 5 million more than the current capacity.
