Construction of Tanzania’s $10 billion Bagamoyo Port has been suspended as the country plans to focus on improved capacity at its Dar es Salaam and Mtwara ports.
AllAfrica.com cited Tanzania’s Minister for Works, Transport and Communications, Makame Mbarawa, as saying that government would upgrade berths 1 to 7 and construct two additional ones, 13 and 14, at the Port of Dar es Salaam.
The World Bank has agreed to fund the refurbishment of berths 1 to 7 while talks are still ongoing for financing construction of berths 13 and 14. The amount has yet to be disclosed, reports Tanzanian newspaper the Citizen.
