Ed Richardson PORT ELIZABETH company Welfit Oddy registered 40% growth from June 2005, a significant achievement for the tank container manufacturer in a highly competitive market. Managing director John Oddy confirmed that growth of this nature was significant for the company. He says that demand for the product has been fairly volatile, fluctuating according to the world trade and gross domestic product. Oddy says the market peaked in 1998, with 16 000 tank containers built worldwide. But since the decline in the market, it currently stands at 11 000 units. Most of the tank containers from Welfit Oddy are exported to global markets in Europe, UK, US and the East. Oddy believes the growth is due to the company’s ability to respond to the market and adjust its products accordingly.
