Tailor-made labour outsourcing gains traction

Tight employment legislation, low productivity, escalating costs and risk of delays and breakages are pushing blue chip companies, smaller private warehouse owners and transporters to find efficient solutions to combat labour challenges, says Camron Spangenburg of Outsourced Project Solutions.

“More and more industry leaders are leaning towards outsourcing their labourintensive projects to more efficient, productivity-driven models. At OPS we build tailormade models to suit each of our client’s specific productivity goals.” Outsourcing offers a range of benefits, he points out.

“It eliminates the variable cost of labour as clients are not charged an hourly rate but rather on productivity. OPS can also supply all the relevant consumables and equipment pertaining to the project with the necessary supervision and management to get the job done.”

And while technology may be playing a larger and larger role in warehousing operations, Spengenburg believes this won’t be to the detriment of the jobs market.

“Technology helps improve rates of production but there is still a need for human interaction. There is a huge skills shortage across all industries in South Africa – especially when it comes to technological advances. Industry leaders need to drive and motivate their staff to keep up with new technological systems in order to retain their competitive edge.
