SACD takes home logistics award Team work delivers the goods É from left Johan Dobies (SACD), Steve Botes (McDonalds Transport), John Teixeira (SAD), Jeremy Brown (ILS). RAY SMUTS IN A combined first time entry, South African Dried Fruit (SAD), SACD Freight Cape Town, McDonalds Transport, and Industrial Logistics Solutions won gold at the recent 17th annual Logistics Achiever Awards in Johannesburg. Historically, SAD used Spoornet rail services to transport full containers of finished product directly from its Upington factory to the elected port for shipping. The only alternative option for SAD was to consider a road-based supply chain to freight pallets to Cape Town for consolidation into containers. SACD makes the point SAD was not simply after a transporter and consolidator but service providers able to become an extension of their business and have the same regard, in line with SAD objectives, of attaining maximum customer satisfaction through on-time delivery, product quality and price. SACD Freight Cape Town was selected as the consolidation service provider responsible for product storage, container preparation, container loading and delivery to port. Performance results so far include 100% on time delivery to vessel; 0.02% loading error; and 0.03% product infestation. The Logistics Achiever Awards is aimed at rewarding logistics and supply chain excellence benchmarked at world-class standards. ÒWhat started as a transport problem has now become an optimised and sustainable world-class supply chain with considerable savings to the exporter,Ó says Johan Dobies, marketing manager for SACD Freight Cape Town, who piloted the project.
