Strong wind has been a constant challenge in Cape Town in the past week resulting in the port being windbound for long periods of time.
On Monday they had to stop operations until late on Tuesday due to strong winds.
Wind speeds of more than 100km per hour have been recorded in the past few days.
Whilst the Cape is no stranger to heavy winds such occurrences in winter are rare and out of the ordinary, said a source.
The Cape windy season is usually during the summer months from early November to late January sometimes into February.
Winds in July, however, have been so strong that the port authority could move no vessels within the port for several hours at a time, said the source.
