Stowe gets Saldanha post

RAY SMUTS VETERAN maritime personality Captain Peter Stowe, acting harbour master at the port of Saldanha for the past eight months, has been appointed to the permanent position with immediate effect. He will be responsible for vessel traffic and nautical services as well as search and rescue activities off the South African west coast, stretching as far as the Orange River. Stowe, a master mariner and for several years deputy harbour master at the port of Cape Town, brings to the post a wealth of experience, including sailing for more than two decades on general cargo ships, bulk carriers and tankers and seven years on the salvage tugs John Ross (now Smit Amandla) and Wolraad Woltemade engaged in worldwide towage of various vessel types and salvage operations. Key challenge for Stowe is “to ensure navigational safety in the port is maintained to facilitate anticipated business growth.”
