STATUS MARITIME has delayed until April the launch of its SA - Europe service.
Charter vessels which will open Status Shipping Lines' new service will not be available until April and as a result the planned start to the schedule for this month has been delayed.
Everything has been tied up, it's just a matter of having to wait the extra three months, says Ian Wicks, m.d.
of Status Maritime.
Wicks, accompanied by leading members of his company, travel to Europe next week to finalise details of schedules and stevedoring contracts.
We will be visiting the UK, Germany, Holland and Belgium and tying up other agency agreements as well, he said.
The new service will start at the beginning of April with a southbound sailing, calling at the European ports of Bremerhaven, Rotterdam and Felixstowe in the northern hemisphere. Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Durban are the local ports of call.
The vessels will offer 1500 teu capacity with reefer slots and will be operated on a weekly schedule. The final schedules and further vessel details will be announced when Wicks returns to South Africa.
