Spotco to expand national warehousing facilities

ANNA COX THERE IS an increasing demand for short-term warehousing, according to Dany de Pauw of Spotco, which offers warehousing for any amount of time from two days to several months. “We have seen this trend emerging in recent times as a result of a general increase in business activities and in outsourcing,” he said. Spotco offers full logistics solutions for freight forwarders in air, road and sea. The company, which has been in existence for 10 years, has large warehousing facilities in Johannesburg (1500m2), Cape Town (1000m2) and Durban (2500m2). There are plans to expand all three into facilities offering between 2500m2 in Cape Town to 10 000m2 in Durban. Spotco specialises in project cargo, in particular for the telecommunications industry. “We have grown to understand that business - the technical needs, the products and how our customers operate. We bring together various operating factors from the different agents and offer our expertise in anything from imports and exports to handling,” said De Pauw. Another niche market is the handling of sporting events such as golfing tournaments, motorbike or car races and testing of prototypes for car manufacturers. “We do all the logistics from landing to departure. South Africa is opening up to the rest of the world and we are getting more and more major events happening here,” he said. Spotco also has the contract for the logistics of on-board cameras for Formula One racing events. The company serves the freight industry only.
