Speedy turnaround delights Phalaborwa client

AN ABNORMAL airfreight shipment from Canada destined for Phalaborwa landed at Johannesburg International Airport (JIA) recently, and earned accolades for Clover Cargo’s international freight division from the Phalaborwa-based client. The cargo consisted of two underground drilling rig replacement modules to be attached to the front of the client’s underground drilling machines. “They were needed urgently, and happily we met all the requirements,” says Rod Basson, Clover Cargo’s route development manager. The machines arrived at JIA on a British Airways World Cargo (BAWC) freighter late on a Friday afternoon. They were packed in two large open crates weighing almost 11 tons each. “Due to the abnormal nature of the cargo and uneven weight distribution, a crane truck and truck and trailer had to be arranged by Bev Clark, our client liaison officer for the account, and Burt Jonker, our cargo drawing co-ordinator. Both were present to co-ordinate and supervise the entire operation,” says Basson. Everything went ahead as planned and the cargo was safely delivered to the mine within 48 hours of arrival at JIA.
