RAY SMUTS UNLIKE FINGERPRINTS, textile stock codes and colour do of necessity change during the manufacturing process. Macro 2000, which has over 20 years experience in the textile industry, has on offer a software product that will suit the industry to a tee. Called MRP2, it extends from financials (accounts) through to stock control and distribution, production planning and production control, says marketing executive Anthea van Breemen. “When people look to Macro it is because they have specialised needs and in this instance our product is designed to handle textiles and manufacturing.” One satisfied Macro MRP2 system textile client is Colibri Towelling, manufacturers of quality towelling at plants in Somerset West and Uitenhage. Van Breemen explains that in textiles a raw product starts out as a thread, pre-dyed into a certain colour, then woven into a piece of cloth and either sold off as a roll or further processed into a finished product, such as towels or clothing. “While the product is moving from thread stage to completion it often changes its stock code, something normal stock systems cannot track. “What is special about the system is that it provides a fully integrated flow of data and business control from receipt of raw material, through manufacturing, warehousing and final distribution.”
