Maersk has resumed the process of liquidating its Russian container shipping subsidiary Maersk LLC (St Petersburg) as the line takes the final steps to exit the country.
This is according to a notice the Russian Unified State Register of Legal Entities (Fedresurs) published on Friday, in which it announced that A.P. Moller-Maersk had made the decision to liquidate the subsidiary in April.
Maersk formally ceased its Russian-related operations in 2022 and started to divest itself of assets in the country.
The line first started the liquidation process of Maersk LLC in 2022 and dismissed all its employees by mutual agreement in February 2023. However, according to local media reports, the liquidation process was cancelled in June 2023.
Maersk LLC stated in its regulatory filings for last year that there were no activities due to the liquidation and that it had therefore not received any revenue.
Among key assets the line had earlier divested itself of in the country were two logistics sites – an inland container depot in Novorossiysk and a refrigerated containers warehouse in St Petersburg. Four tugboats under Maersk’s towage division Svitzer were sold to a Chinese buyer.
