Liquid national gas (LNG) uptake, especially for shipping fuel, reached a record high of 24.52 million metric tonnes in imports in April, the MABUX World Bunker Index has reported.
It marks a 1.7% or 0.58 Mt increase year-on-year (y-o-y).
Increased imports for LNG were especially driven by the Asia Pacific and Latin America and the Caribbean, or LAC, region.
April’s surge in LNG uptake compensated “for a significant downturn in European LNG imports,” MABUX said.
From January to April 2024, global LNG imports grew by 2.9% (3.98 Mt) y-o-y, totalling 142.52 Mt.
