The SA Shipper's Council has held its first Annual General Meeting since it was established over a year ago. Spokesman Nolene Lossau said the meeting ratified the council's constitution and drew up draft policy proposals. it also set up a new board. It consists of: Dr Pieter Nagel, chairman; Louis Tolmay, vice chairman; and board members Tuis Russeaux, Jacques du Plessis, Pete Williams and Gerrie Holl.

Lossau said the meeting accepted an invitation from Portnet to take part in a project to redesign documentation procedures.

The council's constitution commits it to developing an efficient logistics chain.

It will also promote communication between senders and receivers, guard against price fixing and set up training facilities.

Lossau said membership had increased substantially over the past year. The council would continue to grow and work for the benefit of the industry, she said.
