CARGO CRATES for anything from machinery to fine art.
That’s the proud claim of packaging specialists Cape Crating. “And you can add wrapping and packing to our statement,” said director Owen Bottomley.
The company is now enjoying its 10th year in business, and a long way from when it was established in 1995 in the garage at the home of fellow director, Sean Abbott.
“We have progressed somewhat,” he told FTW. “We own our building, have a fleet of six vehicles, a three-ton forklift, and a reputation for reliability and honesty.”
Cape Crating also retains its independent status.
“Unlike many in the industry,” Bottomley added, “we have no affiliation or cross-ownership with any freight company.”
Its list of services extends beyond supply of custom crates and pallets to foil barrier wrapping of machines; plastic heat shrinking of cargo (including yachts); container stuffing and de-stuffing; and the lashing and securing of cargo on flat racks.
“We also fumigate where necessary,” said Abbott, “but we have a range of crates that require no fumigation - of which the traditional tea chest is one.”
