A couple and their six-month-old baby were seriously injured when a container fell off a truck travelling along the N3 near Van Reenen’s Pass over the Easter Weekend. Weekend newspapers reported that the accident happened at the foot of the pass near Ladysmith when the truck driver lost control of the vehicle. According to a spokesman for Netcare 911 the couple and the baby were rushed to a nearby hospital but have since been transferred to a Johannesburg hospital. Eye witnesses told police the truck swerved into on coming traffic and the container then fell off. A second truck ran into the first truck after the first accident while a third truck managed to avoid colliding with the two trucks, but did hit the car with the container on top. Two of the truck drivers involved in the incident were also hospitalised.
