Security is a major issue facing the express airfreight industry this year, says Sue Wood, Cargocare operations director. Of particular relevance is the global security certification deadline that kicked in on May 1. “Previously certification was voluntary in Europe, but that has now changed,” she said. “Currently, about 80% of airfreight exporters from Europe are still not certified – in line with the industry standard. We anticipate that there will be delays due to non-certification, but we will manage this by keeping the communication channels open and providing regular updates,” she said
