Secondary manufacturing of Africa’s commodities a must

Is what is termed the “commodities super-cycle slowdown” a shock for Africa?

It is, according to Carlos Lopes, the executive secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).

“The time is right for Africa to accelerate its commodity-based industrialisation,” he told allAfrica.com.

This, Lopes said, “by adding value to commodities, improving its backward integration, and expanding global value chain linkages to other areas of the economy”.
