Global seafreight is being trapped in a scenario of only limited trade growth facing excessive capacity growth (particularly on the major Asia-Europe trade) and its volume gains are being beaten by those of airfreight.
As Lloyds Loading List reported, David Ross, MD of the Stifel Transportation & Logistics Research Group, told investors that this supply/demand imbalance was “pressuring carrier and forwarder profitability”.
