Logistics companies are positioning themselves for the expected resurgence of the Zimbabwean economy. “SDV bought the freight forwarder AMI in Zimbabwe in1999, and despite the economic crisis in the country, SDV has continued to give full support to its local and international clients,” says John Deans, country manager of SDV Zimbabwe. “We are now on a very aggressive marketing and development campaign, and with our strength in Africa and worldwide, we are the only forwarder covering all facets of the total logistics solution for importers and exporters,” Deans has moved to Harare in order to develop SDV in Zimbabwe in partnership with local companies. This after two years with SDV in Zambia and seven years as general manager of SDV Malawi. He started his career in South Africa, accumulating eight years of experience in Durban before moving to Malawi. With its headquarters in Harare, SDV Zimbabwe has a staff of ten. “Clients benefit from the strength of the SDV network in the region,” says Deans. SDV Zimbabwe is part of the giant Bollore group. The company handles the export by road and rail of chrome ore and related products through the ports of Beira, Maputo and Durban, imports of breakbulk and containerised fertilisers to all destinations in Zimbabwe from Beira, Maputo and Durban, and exports and imports of general cargo, both breakbulk and containers. “SDV Zimbabwe offers customs clearing and a full logistics solution covering warehousing, road transport, local distribution, and airfreight,” he says.
