Cargo verification and cargo clearance will soon be available as part of the standard ID Verification Systems (IVS) offering. “We’re providing the framework for existing users of our system, as well as third parties responsible for screening cargo, to electronically verify and clear cargo from initial screening to handling across the supply chain,” says Stephen Bracher, director at IVS. He says the company’s permit verification business model – first developed in 2006 – is constantly evolving to adapt to the changing security landscape in the freight industry. Software developer and director at IVS, Marius van Jaarsveld, told FTW the framework would be ready by the end of May and was in line with the International Air Transport Association’s recent e-security declaration. The company is also developing additional security features such as biometric access control and facial recognition. Bracher said that IVS was expanding its systems into Africa, driven by its existing customers who utilise the verification software at airports in Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, George and Nelspruit. “We’ll start with airports in southern Africa and expand further as the need arises and demand dictates,” he said. IVS also hopes to expand the identity verification system to the road, rail and shipping industries this year. CAPTION Stephen Bracher ... ‘Tighter control of the supply chain’.
